I’m Febndy Kwik. I am currently working at Coralis Studio, a small company in Indonesia that I started together while I was studying in Binus International University. I have been designing games since I was in elementary school (10 years old!) with pen, paper, an atlas, toothpicks, and a bit of creativity. Ever since then, I’ve fallen in love with game design. My first encounter with a game was at kindergarten, when I was four years old, playing a storytelling game about Peter Pan and Captain Hook. That might also be why I’ve been into pirate stuff up until now.

Education and Games Career

I graduated from Gonzaga College (in Indonesia, Jakarta) and then went to Bina Nusantara International University. I graduated with a Computer Science degree in Games Technology in 2014 with a 3.56 GPA within 7 semesters. My Bachelor thesis, “Using Augmented Reality to Enhance Aetherpet, a Prototype of a Social Game” was published as a journal in 2015. I am currently working with a team on my second paper in game design.

I have designed and published three board game titles since 2015: Throne of Elements (2015), Flipeek Medieval (2016), and Stockastic (2017). Since then, I’ve made a lot of game designs that haven’t reached the market yet, due to personal reasons (wedding and kids) and COVID-19, of course. I also teach a game design workshop in cooperation with Arcanum in a program we name Arcanum Academy. It’s a small class of up to fifteen people where I teach everything I’ve learned since 2015, when I first published my game.

Right now I’m also working on a web-based role-playing game titled Dragnethar Online. It is a free-to-play game that can be accessed from this link.

I made a commitment to myself that I would try new games every month. This habit has helped me learn a lot from many other games that I have tried throughout the years. I want to share what I’ve learned with everyone. On this site, I will post my analysis of games I’ve tried. I hope this can help spark new discussion and improve my understanding of game design.

Enterpreneurship

Due to my family background, I became involved in the family business at a very young age. I started by assisting at my father’s workshop as a mechanic’s assistant. I learned how to assemble and install alternators, pricing, management, and many fundamental business skills by being involved in the daily operations of the business. Since junior high school, I have been handling foreign trade for my father’s business, attending meetings with suppliers (as a translator), and eventually becoming the person in charge of managing imports and exports for the company. While my younger sister has taken over my role, I still help oversee the process and get involved when needed in my family’s business.

I started my first business in 2012, during my third semester at Binus International University. Together with three other classmates, I founded Aqua Terra Ventus Production, a game development studio where we created casual games for Windows 8, which had just been released at the time. In 2014, we decided to take on non-game IT projects to help fund our game developments. In 2015, we released our first board game, “Throne of Elements,” establishing ourselves as one of the early board game publishers in Indonesia. Since then, we have released two more titles, “Flipeek: Medieval” and “Stockastic.”

In 2017, Aqua Terra Ventus Production was disbanded for personal reasons, and some of the partners decided to leave the IT and games industry. During this time, I took a nearly one-year break and got married. While on break, I worked as a freelance programmer and continued to work with past clients from Aqua Terra Ventus Production. Despite the disbandment of ATV, my passion for IT and games remained strong. In 2018, I founded Coralis Studio, and since then, we have completed more than 120 IT projects.

In 2021, after being offered several times to join Arcanum Hobbies, I finally became an official part owner of the company. Previously, I had worked together with Arcanum to create game design classes for Indonesian board game designers; now I am supporting this amazing team as a commissioner, advising them on long-term strategic decision planning.

Organizational Experience

I had been active in various organizations ever since I was in high school. My passion for capoeira had led me to become a president for the capoeira club in high school for a couple of years, and I eventually founded the capoeira club at my university. Once I graduated, I was also active in the alumni organization (Ikagona), first as an observer, then as a member of the committee, and then as the head of the IT department for a while. My experience in organization eventually takes me to the Indonesian Board Game Association (APIBGI). Over the course of my organizational career, I had been trusted to organize the election for both the alumni organization and the board game association. Now, I am currently serving on the supervisory board for Asosiasi Pegiat Industri Board Game Indonesia until the end of 2026.

Hi!
